Douglas Schmitt brings more than 20 years of architectural design and building experience to his eclectic range of residential and commercial projects. An artist by nature, he merges innovative design with practical functionality, driving national awards for many on his diverse client list.

A propensity for transitional international style, Schmitt’s creations are influenced by his studies in Venice, Italy, his European and Caribbean travels and his respect for the sophisticated, fundamental styles of the southern U.S.

Schmitt is both a registered architect and a general contractor. Today, Schmitt’s portfolio is expansive. His design projects are represented in the United States, the Caribbean and the Pacific Coast of Mexico. His work includes both large and personal-scale public and private spaces. Country estates, urban dwellings and island residences make up his active projects, alongside on-going boutique commercial and historic preservation commissions.

Several of Schmitt’s notable projects include designing, Le Moo, a restaurant that was named by Food Network and Thrillist as a “Top 25 Steakhouse in the U.S.” as well as designing private residences for an island in the Caribbean that was named “Top 100 Hotels in the World,” “Top 25 Caribbean Resort Hotels” in 2020 by Travel + Leisure & “Top 15 Resorts in the Atlantic Islands” by Conde Nast Traveler: Readers Choice Awards 2020.

In addition to notable projects seen by the public, Schmitt is very proud of the work he’s created for private clients. “A large number of my clients request that their privacy be respected. This is something I take very seriously as one’s personal space is their own and thus it should remain just that,” Schmitt says.
